There are 3 primary causes for oil leaks on a 7.3L diesel. The most common for large amounts of oil loss are the HPOP O-Rings that are located at the ends of the fittings that screw into the HPOP. These can be repaired at home with a 9/16th wrench and some time the O rings are cheap/free at your local autoparts store. A guy came and took it on a test drive, they had gone about a mile and it threw the serp belt. They took it back home, and he replaced the serp belt. He noticed that it was leaking oil from somewhere on the top of the motor. He cleaned the motor off and took it for a drive no leak at all.

Oil pan, and believe there is a line or plug on the backside of the engine that leaks sometime. Oil pans are very common to rust and leak on 7.3. Not a fun fix.
